WRITE off the cats at your peril.

In an epic encounter, as tough as they come, Kilkenny came out on top by the barest of margins.

Leading by as much as eight points at stages, Limerick persisted and chipped away at the lead. But the Cats never stopped fighting.

An Eoin Murphy save in the 68th minute ensured Kilkenny was in front going into injury time.

In a game Kilkenny never trailed in, Limerick came closest to overtaking them in injury time.

The Cats held out and await the winners of Wexford v Tipperary tomorrow.

As predicted Cody asked his team to beat Limerick physically, and this made it an enthralling 70 minutes of hurling.

The adage goes, it’s tough to win two in a row – that is unless you are Kilkenny.

August 18th awaits.
