Kilkenny woman follows friend’s Winning Streak and scoops €38,000 live on TV
A KILKENNY woman who only bought a Winning Streak scratch card because she heard her friend was to appear on the TV show has ended up scooping €38,000 on the same programme.
And Rita Ronan, who is now living in Foxrock, south Dublin, ended up winning €18,000 more than her pal, Anne Murphy from Kinsale in Cork, who won €20,000 on the same RTÉ One show.
Lucky Rita decided to try her luck when she heard her old friend and colleague was to appear on the show two weeks ago.
So she bought a scratch card, got three stars and later got the shock of her life when her name came out of the drum to be a contestant on the show.
Originally from Kilkenny, Rita has been living in Dublin for more than 35 years where she moved to be with her husband Joe.
The couple have been married for 28 years and have two adult daughters, both of whom are living abroad – Mary in Sydney, Australia, while Sarah Jane is currently on a college exchange programme in London. Mary watched the show online while Sarah Jane flew home to cheer her mum on from the RTE audience along with several other friends and relatives.
Rita and Joe own the hearing aid business Access Hearing Centre, which is located in Dún Laoghaire.
