LATEST: 1,276 new cases of virus and eight further deaths, Kilkenny now has fifth lowest Covid rate in country

A further eight people have died after contracting the coronavirus as 1,276 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed this evening.
The overall death toll as a result of the virus now stands at 1,849. There are now 48,678 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country, according to the latest daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).
The breakdown of the latest cases is as follows: 278 are in Dublin, 149 in Cork, 108 in Meath, 107 in Galway, 80 in Wexford, with the remaining 554 cases are spread across 21 counties.
Latest figures reveal Kilkenny currently has the one of the lowest incidence rate of Covid-19 in the country.
The 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 of the disease is lowest in Tipperary (88.4), Wicklow (91.3), Waterford (109.3), Carlow (119.4) and Kilkenny (122.9).
It is highest in Cavan (735.1), Meath (402.5), Monaghan (368.2), Donegal (365) and Clare (308.9).
Dublin has a rate of 198.6, Cork is at 237.3, Limerick is at 208.8 and while Galway has a rate of 228.6.
