REVEALED: One of world’s wealthiest men buys Kilkenny mansion for €12.6m

From the Lone Star State to Kilkenny country estate: one of the world’s wealthiest people has bought the stately home that was the most valuable property sale in Ireland of 2019.
KilkennyNow.ie has learned Texan billionaire businessman Kelcy Warren has bought Castletown House and Estate, nestled just inside the Kilkenny border close to Carrick-on-Suir, for a whopping €12.6m.
The 54-year old made his $5 billion fortune in the energy industry and is the chairman and largest shareholder of Energy Transfer LP, a US energy and pipeline company that reported revenues in excess of $55 billion in 2018.
Through acquisitions, Energy Transfer is now the owner of one of the USA’s most recognisable brands – Sunoco, which have more than 5,000 gas filing stations across the North American continent.
It is not known if Warren has any connections to the local area, although his mother’s maiden name is the same as a family long associated with that part of the country.
Kelcy Warren, a married father-of-one. is a self-made man whose $5 billion dollar fortune places him in the top 150 wealthiest Americans and top 450 wealthiest people in the world.
Outside of business, Warren is known for his philanthropy including ongoing work with native American music, children’s charities and local ecological programmes in Texas.
Warren owns numerous properties, including what is described as the best golf resort in the state of Texas – Lajitas Golf Resort and an island off Honduras in Hawaii.
The billionaire should fit right in at Castletown, an area between Carrick, Tullahought, Faugheen and Windgap, all famed for fabulous musicians and sessions.
Warren is a music lover who has created two recording studios, as well as setting up a record label in 2007 called Music Road Records with ‘Woodie Guthrie Music Festival’ organiser and American folk legend Steve LeFave (who passed away in 2017).
Music Road Records has collaborated with some of America’s biggest music names over the years, including Bruce Springsteen and Bonnie Raitt.
It is understood Mr Warren took ownership of Castletown Estate shortly before Christmas.
