Man (30s) arrested over firework attack on Garda at Dublin lockdown demo

A man in his 30s has been arrested in Dublin in relation to the firework attack on gardai at a demonstration in Dublin over the weekend.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed the man was arrested this morning. He is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 at Irishtown Garda Station. The suspect can be questioned for up to three days.

Footage of the demonstration widely shared on social media showed people in the crowd lighting fireworks before approaching the Garda cordon set up on the corner of Grafton St and St Stephen’s Green.

One officer injured in the chaos will have to undergo an operation later in the week for injuries they suffered during the attack.
