Man arrested with gun at Carlow pub now being quizzed over teen’s murder

A man was arrested and taken into custody after he was found in possession of a handgun at a pub in Carlow is being questioned over the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man last week.

Gardai were called to the scene in shortly after 10pm on Tuesday where they found a man in possession of a handgun.

He was arrested at the scene and taken to Carlow Garda Station where he is was detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939.

The gun was sent for ballistic tests and gardai last night confirmed the suspect, who is in his 50s, “is now formally detained for offences connected with the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Conor O’Brien (pictured bleow) in Enfield on the evening of Thursday 26th August 2021”.

Gardai said they have “no further comment at this time”.
