Pandemic payments for Kilkenny workers extended into Spring 2021
There is major relief for Kilkenny workers whose jobs have been affected by Covid-19 as the Government announces it is to extend the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) and Wage Subsidy Scheme into next Spring.
The PUP will now continue until next April, it has been confirmed but will be gradually reduced to €203 per week from the current level of €350 per week.
This reduction will be individually appraised and will be based on the claimant’s earnings before the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
The temporary wage subsidy scheme is also set to be extended into April 2021, giving both employers and employees breathing spaces as the restrictions ease and the economy ramps up.
The Government has announced the total cost to the exchequer of extending the PUP scheme from now until next Spring is estimated to be more than €2.2 billion.
