Plans for new hotel in heart of Kilkenny city

Plans for an exciting new addition to Kilkenny’s high-end accommodation sector have been lodged with the local council.

Kilkenny County Council have received plans for a 23-bedroom  hotel in the centre of Kilkenny City.

The proposed hotel will be located between Lower John’s Street and Horse Barrack Lane, which is within the John Street Architectural Conservation Area, at the location most recently used as Lewis’s shop.

The application for the new hotel was lodged by Kevin Moore Building Ltd.

As part of the application, the developer plans to demolish the existing first and second floors of 19 and 20 John’s Street as well as demolishing extensions to the rear, an outbuilding and old garage. These would be replaced with a new first floor level at 19 and 20 John’s Street and the construction of a new two-storey extension.

The plans also request permission to build a new three-storey hotel pavilion along Horse Barrack Lane with internal courtyards and a rooftop garden.

A decision on the application is expected next month.
