REST IN PEACE: Kilkenny Death Notices

Mary BERGIN (née Martin)
1 Greenview, Ballyragget

Mary Bergin (Nee Martin) died 25th February 2022, peacefully in St. Lukes Hospital ,Kilkenny.

Deeply regretted by her son Denis. Predeceased by her husband Michael.

Sadly missed by her Sister-in-Law, Nephews, Nieces, Grandnephews, Grandnieces, relatives and friends.

Reposing at her home from 4pm Sunday 27th, with Rosary at 8pm.

Removal to St. Patricks Church Ballyragget on Monday night for 7pm prayers.

Requiem Mass Tuesday 1st March at 11am followed by burial in St. Finnans Cemetry Ballyragget.

Family flowers only.

Donations if desired to O’Gorman Home Ballyragget.

John McGOVERN
Station Road, Bennettsbridge

McGovern (Station Road, Bennettsbridge, Co. Kilkenny) 24th February 2022, peacefully, at his home, John, beloved husband of Eileen and much loved father of Niall, sadly missed by his wife and son, sisters Peggy and Kathleen (Canada), daughter-in-law Barbara, grandsons Ruairi and Donagh, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours, friends and fellow GAA members.

Reposing in Johnston’s Funeral Home, Johns Green, Kilkenny on Saturday from 4.30pm with Funeral Prayers at 6pm followed by removal to St. Bennett’s Church, Bennettsbridge. Funeral Mass on Sunday at 12 noon. Interment afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Phelan (Listerlin, Tullogher, Co. Kilkenny) – 24th February 2022, Jim, after a short illness borne with fortitude and dignity, beloved husband of the late Una and loving father of Sara, Gill and Orpha (and infant son, Peter, who predeceased him, 1967), loving brother of Bernie, and the late Nicky, Maura and Pauline. Loving grandfather to Hugo, Abel and Clevan, father-in-law to Tom (Farmer), Cathal (Gilmartin) and Phil (Williams). Deeply regretted by all his family, his many nieces and nephews, his wonderful friends and neighbours.

Reposing in Doyle’s Funeral Home, The Old Rectory, Rosbercon, New Ross from 3pm to 6pm tomorrow Saturday 26th February, thereafter travelling to his home in Listerlin. Removal will take place at 11.30am on Sunday, 27th February, to St. Aidan’s Church, Tullogher for Requiem Mass at 12 noon with burial afterwards in Rosbercon Cemetery.

It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the sudden death of Patricia. Predeceased by her parents Thomas and Peggie and her husband Peter. Sadly missed by her sisters Kathleen and Mary, brothers Dan and Patrick, brother-in-law John, sister-in-law Mairead, Padge, Mag, Thomas, Niamh, Noah, Elena, Lily, Aoife, extended family and friends.

Reposing at Joyce’s Funeral Home, Borris from 12 noon on Saturday with removal to The Sacred Heart Church at 5.45 pm. Requiem Mass on Sunday at 11 am followed by burial afterwards in The Sacred Heart Cemetery, Borris.

Paul Benedict SMITHWICK
Dublin/Kilkenny City

The death has taken place of Paul Benedict Smithwick (Kilkenny and Dublin) Feb 24 2022, with his family by his bedside, following a short illness. Dearest father of Emma, Daniel, Georgie and the late Edmond and Richard. Dear brother to Peter and Judy, father-in-law of Dom and Sarah and proud grandfather to Alice, Eugenie and Emma.

Funeral service to take place at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Kilkenny, at 1pm Sunday, 27th February.

If desired, a donation to the new monastery at the Benedictine Kylemore Abbey, Co. Galway, would be greatly valued and appreciated by Paul. The Mother Abbess Mother Maire and the community of Kylemore were particularly close to Paul over the last decade.

Annie WALSH (née Purcell)
Bawnrickeen, Johnstown

Peacefully at Brookhaven Nursing Home in her 98th year. Predeceased by her husband Patrick, brothers Jimmy, Jack, Fr Philip and sister Eileen(Tobin). Deeply regretted by her loving family Tony, Paddy, Ann (Sammon), Monica (Tobin) and Philip, her daughters in law, sons in law, sister in law Sadie (Purcell), her twelve adoring grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Reposing at her residence on Sunday afternoon, with rosary at 6.30pm followed by removal to St. Kieran’s Church, Johnstown, arriving for 7.30pm. Requiem Mass on Monday at 11.00am with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Family flowers only.
