Revealed: Kilkenny mansion was Ireland’s highest recorded property sale of 2019

The most valuable property sold in Ireland in 2019 was a palladian country estate in county Kilkenny which fetched a whopping €12,600,000.

The sale of Castletown Demesne, which lies just inside Kilkenny’s border on the outskirts of Carrick-on-Suir, was revealed in the official Residential Property Price Register (RPPR) for 2019, released earlier today.

The report shows there was a small increase in the number of properties sold in Kilkenny (0.6%) last year, bucking the national trend which recorded an overall drop of 3.9%

The €12.6 million sale of Castletown followed a marathon long-legal battle over living rights involving former owner and former Conservative Party Chairperson, Lord Magan.

The RPPR report confirmed 870 property sales were recorded in Kilkenny city and county last year.

The figures also indicate a housing crisis remains in county Kilkenny, with just 6% of sales being new builds, or just over 50 houses.

In total, just nine counties recorded an increase in sales.

A total of 54,963 sales were recorded in 2019 nationally, 2,239 fewer than 2018.
