Roadworks and traffic delays driving Kilkenny motorists car-azy
By COLIN BARTLEY
ROADWORKS and traffic diversions across Kilkenny city and county are driving many local motorists around the bend.
Several frustrated drivers took to Twitter over the past 24 hours to vent their fury after they became stuck in traffic jams in different parts of the county.
The loudest online groans came from motorists who have had to endure lane closures and a stop/go system on the N25 at Glenmore in the south of the county.
Ongoing works by the new bridge that will connect Kilkenny to Wexford (and will be Ireland’s longest when completed next month) are causing delays of up to 30 minutes for many motorists and commuters. These works started in February, and are set to continue until at least the end of July.
But it can’t come quickly enough for one exasperated driver who tweeted: “For How Long?”
Another wrote: “Stop go lights in Glenmore. Huge delays, miles long tailbacks. Stuck for 25min now. No Warnings,” they added.
Meanwhile, delays are also expected for the remainder of the week in the north of the country along part of the N78. Drivers are warned that works from Crettyard, through Castlecomer to Hennebry’s Cross, will remain in place until Friday, between 7.30am to 6pm.
On the outskirts of the city, temporary traffic lights will be in place on the Kilmanagh Road (R695) between the Circular Road junction and Drakelands until June 2020, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
