Saddling up to raise money for local causes

WITH the Tour de France finished for another year, attentions turn to Kilkenny’s very own tour.

This weekend sees the 11th  Tour de Kilkenny take to the highways and by-ways of the county.

Marble City Cyclers are hosting the even which over the last 10 years has raised €130,000 for local charities.

The tour is for cyclists of all abilities, for young and old. There are four tour routes this year, a 44km, a 77km, a 110km, and a 150km route.

The various tour routes pass through the likes of Callan, Mullinavat, Inistioge, Thomastown, Bennetsbridge, Graiguenamanagh, Gowran and Kilkenny.

The TdK sets off next Saturday, and online registration will close at midnight Thursday 1st August. On the day registration will also be available.

All the funds raised go to charity, and this year’s beneficiaries are

  • The Watergarden Thomastown
  • The  Samaratans
  • New Ross Meals on Wheels
  • Breast Cancer Ireland
  • The Pilgrimage Trust
