Scenes of chaos as Garda Armed Reponse Unit called to Kilkenny halting site

A MAN appeared in court today charged in connection with scenes of chaos that unfolded at a Kilkenny halting site over the weekend.
Members of the Garda Armed Response Unit had to be called in after a violent stand-off erupted in the early hours of yesterday morning at the Wetlands Halting Site.
Missiles were thrown at gardai attending the scene and a squad car had to be towed away after it was damaged in the violence.
Gardai called for armed back-up after a man barricaded himself into a property at the halting site.
The man was eventually arrested and taken to Kilkenny Garda Station.
He appeared before a special sitting of Kilkenny District Court earlier today. He has been remanded in custody pending another appearance at Cloverhill District Court.
