Show some muscle: TJ Reid invites people to help lift 500,000kg for Teac Tom charity
THE people of Kilkenny are being urged to throw their weight behind an innovative new fundraising drive.
TJ Reid Health and Fitness is hosting a LIFT 4 LIFE event at their gym in Cíllín Hill on Saturday to raised much needed funds for Teac Tom, the locally-based based suicide intervention and bereavement support charity founded by Angela Hayes (pictured above with TJ).
TJ and staff at the gym fitness centre have invited members and no-members to come by and help them to reach their goal of lifting 500,000kg on the day.
People can lift as much or as little as they are comfortable with, and each lifting station will be monitored by a qualified staff member who will offer advice and encouragement.
Others not interested in lifting weights can show their support by bringing in baked goods for a special ‘Dough for Dough’ counter which will be set up to tempt gym-goers.
TJ Reid Health and Fitness Director Richard Connolly said: “The response so far has been overwhelming.
We have gym members volunteering to help on the day, others offering to bring in baked goods. It’s brilliant to have such a reaction, but sad in the sense that so many people have been affected by suicide.
“Our aim is raise money for Teac Tom and also to highlight the service for anyone who is struggling at the moment. They don’t have to suffer in silence. There is help out there, and lots of it.”
Richard confirmed that all monies raised on Saturday will go directly to Teac Tom, including any day passes, memberships, classes, gym gear sold on the day.
