Walk on: €110,000 hike in funding for popular Kilkenny trails and walkways

Six popular Kilkenny community walking trails have secured more than €110,000 in funding to improve and upgrade their outdoor amenities.
Kilkenny County Council has been awared €73,291 in grants for outdoor amenities countywide. Meanwhile two two additional local projects have each receieved €20,000 in funding through the Kilkenny Leader Partnership.
The funding was announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys as part of a €3.2 million investment under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.
The following local projects were successful in obtaining funding :
- €13,500 for Woodstock;
- €20,000 for the Brandon Hill Loop Walk;
- €20,000 for the Freshford Loop Walk;
- €20,00 for Cois Beatha Riverside Loop Walk;
- €20,000 for Kilmacoliver Loop Walk in Tullaghought;
- €20,000 for Gattabawn Loop Walk.
Kilkenny TD Paul Phelan said: “The funding announced today, under Measure 1 of the Scheme, will support small-scale local projects with funding of up to €20,000 each.
“This is a very good news day for all of these communities in a time when we so need good news.”
