WEATHER FORECAST: Rare winter rays of sunshine on the horizon for Kilkenny

The fog and frost is expected to clear today, giving way to rare sunny spells across Kilkenny city and county.

After a weekend which saw a mixture of sub-zero temperatures and clear blue skies, Met Éireann said conditions will improve further across the country today, particularly in Leinster and Munster.

The national forecaster said: “On Monday frost and fog will gradually clear during the morning to leave a dry day with a mix of cloud and sunny spells.

“The best of the sunshine is expected across Leinster and Munster with more in the way of cloud for Connacht and Ulster. Maximum afternoon temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees generally in light southwest breezes but fresh along western and northern coasts.”

Tempatures will dip to as low as -2 degrees tonight, but there will be much warmer temperatures tomorrow, albeit with “a little drizzle in place”.

Wednesday is set to be rather cloudy, but again “patchy drizzle or fog in places” is forecast, with afternoon highs of 7 to 10 degrees.

Thursday and Friday will be rather cold, but – thankfully – mainly dry with some sunny breaks.

However, Met Éireann warned there are indications of more unsettled “Atlantic type weather” setting in next weekend, bringing some wet and possibly windy spells.
