WEEKEND WEATHER: Let it snow … Met Éireann warns of ‘wintry falls’

The odds of a white Christmas are shortening as weather forcasters predicted we could be in for some snow this weekend.

Met Éireann said “some wintry falls” are possible this weekend as the icy weather continues and temperatures plummet to sub-zero.

It’s also expected to be windy today, with the breezy conditions rolling into the weekend.

The national forecaster said: “It will continue cold and showery during the weekend with some wintry falls possible. Frost is likely at night with minimum temperatures close to or below freezing. It will be breezy at times as well. It looks like it will continue cold early next week with sunshine and showers.”

Saturday will be very cold and windy, with some spells of sunshine and scattered wintry showers.

There will be a frosty start to Sunday too, with “lingering ice in places”.

Met Éireann added: “Scattered wintry showers during the day, but winter sunshine at times too. Another very cold day, in westerly breezes, with highs of only 4 to 7 degrees. Breezy at times across the southern half of Ireland. Temperatures will widely fall back to minus 1 or minus 2 degrees after-dark.”
