Wind turbine to power county Kilkenny meat factory

A meat factory has been given the green light to erect a 64m high wind turbine at its factory in county Kilkenny.

The local authority has approved planning permission for a 2 megawatt turbine to be built on the site of
Dawn Meats plant in Grannagh.

In its planning application, the owners of the factory, Queally Pig Slaughtering Limited, said the turbine “will be installed with a hub height of 64 meters and a blade radius of 35.5 meters, with underground ducting connecting to the existing ESB substation and all associated site works”.

Dawn Meats previously announced a plan for the meat processor to target “net zero operational emissions across the business by 2040”.
