Woman (60s) killed in horror two-vehicle collision near county Kilkenny town
A woman in her 60s has died following a crash on a motorway just outside a county Kilkenny town earlier today.
The incident occurred in the townland of Longford Pass just south of Junction 4 outside Urlingford on the Tipperary side of the border on the M8 motorway at around 11.30am this morning.
The female driver in her late 60s, who was the sole occupant of her car, was killed instantly when the vehicle collided with a truck.
The male driver (20s) of the truck was treated for shock at the scene by paramedics.
The victim’s remains were removed from the scene to the mortuary in South Tipperary General Hospital where a post mortem is due to be carried out.
The road was temporarily closed in both directions as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carried out an examination of the scene, with local diversions put place.
Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Any road users who were travelling on the M8 southbound, south of junction 4, and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make it available to Gardaí.”
