Plans for new community leisure centre in heart of Kilkenny town

A community group in a county Kilkenny town is pushing ahead with plans to create a major leisure development for local residents.

Gowran on the Move, a community group set up last year, has applied to Kilkenny County Council to build the leisure and sports development on lands in the Clover area, close to the historic centre of the town (pictured above).

If approved, the development will consist of a multi-purpose play area to include numerous children’s play zones for different age groups. The development will also create a multi-sport ball court enclosure and a perimeter walking track.

The new leisure facility will be built close to the existing soccer club lands and new carparking, footpaths, boundary walls and ballcourt fencing will be created as part of the plans.

A decision on the Gowran community venture is due at the beginning of July.
