Developer fights Council’s decision to reject plans to transform Kilkenny shoe shop into new houses

Plans to transform a well-known shoe shop in a county Kilkenny town into new family homes that were rejected by the local authority are now back on the table.

Last month SFT Moore Developments Limited’s application to convert the site formerly known as Cook’s Shoe Shop on Urlingford’s Main Street into housing was refused by Kilkenny County Council.

But now the developers have appealed the decision to An Bord Pleanála in a bid to overturn the council’s decision.

SMT Moore are looking for the retention of planning on an extension to the rear of the shop, which would undergo a change of use from commercial use to residential use.

The developers are looking to build two, three-bedroom family homes on the site.

A decision from the national planning agency is expected by the middle of May.
