Community heroes: Young Kilkenny men awarded ‘leadership for life’ certs

Two young adults from Kilkenny have been recognised for the huge efforts they have made of behalf of their local communities.

Conor Gleeson and Alan McCabe were this week awarded with Foróige’s Leadership for Life Programme Certificates, accredited by the National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG).

The Leadership for Life programme aims to empower young people to make a positive difference to their community through practical actions and projects. It teaches young people the core concepts of leadership and skills such as communication, teamwork, problem solving, critical thinking, self-awareness.

Conoar and Alan were among 342 young people from across the island of Ireland who were awarded Certificate in Youth Leadership and Community Action.

Speaking at a virtual award ceremony, Foróige CEO Seán Campbell said: “The Leadership for Life Programme is a once in a lifetime opportunity for young people.

“It helps them acquire accredited leadership skills that will guide them through life. They come away from the programme with skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, empathy, resilience, self-reflection and teamwork.”
