County Kilkenny €9million flood relief project ready to go to design stage

By COLIN BARTLEY

THE €9 million Graiguenamanagh flood relief scheme is one step closer to starting as the project has gone for design tender.

Last year funding was confirmed for the project immediately in the aftermath of the damage caused by Storm Deirdre.

This project is a joint undertaking by Kilkenny County Council and Carlow County Council.

Graiguenamangh has suffered badly from storms recently, with many houses and businesses destroyed. Both the River Barrow and River Duiske broke their banks in recent years.

The announcement the project is ready to tender for design will come as a great relief to the people affected.

Both councils hope to have consultants in place in the coming months to move the project forward. There is no date for completion as of yet.
