COVID-19 UPDATE: A further nine pass away as 59 new cases reported

A further nine people lost their lives from Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland in the last 24 hours, the HSE said this evening.

The total death toll here is now 1,651 while the number of confirmed cases has now reached  24,929 after another 59 were diagnosed.

Meanwhile, the latest detailed data from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre shows that 57% of Covid-19 cases are female and 43% are male with a median age of 48.

A total of 3,279 cases (13%) have been hospitalised and of those, 408 cases were admitted to ICU, while 7,955 cases are associated with healthcare workers.

Dublin has the highest number of cases at 12,031 (48% of all cases) followed by Cork with 1,472 cases (6%) and then Kildare with 1,416 cases (6%).
