Plans for major extension to new county Kilkenny healthcare facility at centre of local objections

The owners of a new pharmacy was given the green light despite local objections have now lodged plans to expand the premises.

The application by Westcourt Healthcare Limited to Kilkenny County Council to locate a new pharmacy at their Primary Healthcare Facility on Lady’s Well Street in Thomastown was initially rejected last September after a flurry of objections from local businesses and residents.

However, Westcourt appealed the decision to An Bord Pleanála who overruled the local authority’s decision and allowed the plans for the pharmacy go ahead on the site of the healthcare facility.

Now Westcourt have lodged another application requesting permission for a two-storey extension to the current facility, which will add another 50% to the size of the original facility, which was granted planning back in 2018.

The extension is being designed to house a new medical centre which could employ up to 16 people upon completion.

A decision on Westcourt’s application is expected around the middle of next month.
