Female teacher receives three-year sentence over sex with student

The female teacher convicted of having sex with one of her secondary school pupils has been sentenced to three years in prison.

The 25-year-old female, who admitted to having sex with one of her students on two occasions last year when the boy was just 16, today received a three years jail sentence, with the last two years suspended.

The woman, who was employed as a substitute English teacher in the school when the incidents happened, told Dublin Circuit Criminal Court she believed the age of consent was 16, took full responsibility and accepts she was wrong.

She is now on the sex offenders list.
