Gardai hunt hit-and-run driver after chaotic scenes near Kilkenny village

Gardai are on the lookout for the driver of a car that was involved in a hit-and-run incident in county Kilkenny.

The incident occurred at around 7.30pm yesterday at Brenor near Piltown when a driver attempted to overtake another car on the R698 road.

But they ended up ploughing into the vehicle, forcing it to lose control and crash off the road.

The driver of the car that caused the crash then fled the scene. The vehicle damaged in the incident has been taken away by gardai for a technical examination.

A community alert and social media appeal for information was launched immediately. It is understood the driver of the damaged car did not suffer serious injury.

Gardai would like to speak with any motorist travelling on the R698 between Piltown and Owning at the time of the incident, especially those with a dash cam footage, to contact Mooncoin Garda Station on 051 896 550.
