An internationally renowned chef and an award-winning nutritionist are joining forces in a competition to encourage not just healthy eating but family eating.
Gennaro Contaldo, the Italian maestro and mentor of Jamie Oliver, and Laura Warren, the woman behind Elite Living Nutrition, are judges of the Family Cook-Off.
Families are asked to plan and cook a healthy dinner. It’s got to be a real team effort, involving adults and children. You must explain your ingredients and method and post a photo of the finished dish on Facebook or Instagram.
There’s a mouth-watering prize for the winners:  a weekend break in Killarney’s  Great Southern Hotel.  The famous hotel, which has hosted world leaders and  celebrities,  will have a welcome on its mat for a family of up to five.
The prize includes B & B plus dinner on one evening in the Garden Room, a beautiful restaurant overlooking landscaped gardens. As a bonus, the winners will receive  a hamper from Shines Wild Irish Tuna in Killybegs, Co Donegal.
The family aspect of the competition is something that particularly appeals to Gennaro Contaldo, bringing back memories of his childhood in Minori on Italy’s beautiful  Amalfi Coast. “The dinner table is the traditional heart of every Italian home,” he
says. “At its best, food is always a family affair and I love the way the contest encourages families  to work together and get the best result from the best ingredients. ” Gennaro is one of the UK’s favourite chefs, and author of a dozen best-selling Italian recipe books. His first cookbook, ‘Passione’, published by Headline in 2003, won Best Italian Cook Book 2003 at the
World Gourmand Cookbook Awards.
He has since written many other books on Italian cooking. His latest, ‘Gennaro’s Limoni’ published by Pavilion, is a foodie’s must,
celebrating and sharing Gennaro’s love of lemons, Italy’s favourite fruit, and the recipes they star in. Lemons are loved in Italy but not always fully appreciated elsewhere. “With their versatility and vibrancy, lemons can transform a dish,”
explains Gennaro. “They can add balance, cleanse,  brighten and cut through the richness of a dish to lift it, while  preserving the
essential flavours of the ingredients.”
‘Gennaro’s Limoni’ has more than  80 inspirational recipes. From light delicate salads to lemon pasta and risotto, meat, fish, desserts and refreshing Lemon Granita for a hot summer’s day.
Laura Warren is an award-winning  health and nutrition professional with an infectious passion for health, fitness and nutrition. She has been involved in the health and beauty industry for more than 15 years and she believes the two go hand in hand. with good food.
She was winner of the Global Healthcare & Pharmaceutical Awards 2022, named Best Health & Nutrition Influencer of the Year (Ireland) three years in a row (2020 & 2021 & 2022) and was recently crowned the winner of the Corporate Live Wire Global Awards 2022/2023 and named Nutrition Specialist of the Year 2022.  Her website, http://www.elitelivingnutrition.com, is the go-to guide for healthy eating and healthy living.
Like Gennaro, Laura loves the family aspect of this competition. “Good food is for sharing,” she says. “I hope everyone who agrees will go to Facebook and Instagram and show us what they can do.”
