Get in! Kilkenny star has chance to shine on one of world’s biggest football stages

Kilkenny’s Seanie Maguire has been called up to the Republic of Ireland’s senior panel and could get the chance to showcase his talent at Wembley Stadium this evening.

New Irish manager Stephen Kenny called up the Preston North End striker after two of his key players were forced to pull out of the squad.

Brighton’s Aaron Connolly picked up a hamstring injury while training at the Irish base in England. Meanwhile, Maguire’s former teammate at Deepdale, Callum Robinson – who now plys his trade with West Bromwich Albion – tested positive for Covid-19 and is self-isolating for 14 days.

But his teammates’ misfortune has given the Kilkenny man a chance to make his mark on one the biggest football stages of them all – against England at Wembley. He is also in the squad for Ireland’s games against Wales and Bulgaria in the Europa Nations League over the coming week.

Maguire will pick up his eleventh cap for the Boys in Green if he gets the nod.
