It’s the Vinyl Countdown: two days to go before Golden Discs store opens in Kilkenny

GOLDEN Discs is coming to Kilkenny.
The music chain’s new store in the Market Cross Shopping Centre will open its doors to the public this Saturday.
The announcement follows the opening of a new Golden Discs outlet in Dublin’s Liffey Valley last weekend, with another store in Limerick’s Crescent Shopping Centre also scheduled to open this Saturday.
The new store openings will create 30 jobs at the company and brings the store count to 19 locations nationwide, in addition to 80 concession stores at Tesco.
Chief Executive Stephen Fitzgerald (pictured) also confirmed plans to open more stores across the country. He said sales growth at Golden Discs is being driven by the “vinyl renaissance”.
Vinyl sales represent a core part of Golden Discs’ business and are up 60% year to date.
“The vinyl renaissance shows no sign of abating. The major labels are reissuing catalogue albums every week as well as all the new releases.
“What started as a niche format for hardcore music fans is more and more becoming mainstream as music lovers use streaming services for convenience and purchase physical product for tangibility,” Mr Fitzgerald said.
