Kilkenny commuters warned of traffic chaos as farmers target Dublin’s M50 and Port Tunnel

Commuters heading home to Kilkenny have been warned to expect traffic chaos this evening as protesting farmers target the M50 and the Port Tunnel.

The protest is expected to create long tail backs onto the N7/M9 slip roads as vehicles are stalled along the M50.

The farmers have left St Stephen’s Green and Merrion Square and have announced that they plan to close the Port Tunnel before heading for the M50.

They are travelling in convoy towards Dublin Port where they plan to stop before moving to the M50 for a slow protest.

Approximately 100 tractors and agricultural vehicles were parked overnight in Dublin city centre over issues in the beef sector.

“Every tractor and jeep on the protest will be going. We’re closing it [the Port Tunnel] for an hour or two,” a spokesperson for The Individual Farmers of Ireland said.

“We’re then going down the M50 and slowing that. We’re heading home then,” he said.
