LATEST: 63 more deaths and over 2,000 new cases of virus confirmed
A further 2,148 people have contratced the coronavirus, the Department of Health confirmed this evening.
Officials also confirmed that 63 more people have died from the virus over the past week.
The latest figures were confirmed as the chair of the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) Irish Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group expressed concern at the “very large number of admissions to intensive care”.
At a NPHET briefing this evening, Professor Philip Nolan said 14 people were admitted to intensive care in the last day, bringing the total number to 86.
He said there has been a slow increase in the number in ICU from 60 four weeks ago, to 74 on average over the last week.
