LATEST: Sharp rise in hospitalisations as almost 2,000 new cases of virus confirmed
A further 1,963 more people have contracted Covid-19, the Department of Health confirmed this evening.
It’s the highest number of cases reported since January when restrictions were in place to combat the third wave of the virus.

The latest figures were confirmed as the HSE’s Chief Clinical Officer has said there is “no doubt” that hospitals are under pressure due to the virus.
Speaking on RTÉ’s This Week programme, Dr Henry also revealed that Dr Colm Henry has also said that 3,500 healthcare workers are now out of work on Covid-related illnesses.
