LATEST: Unmasked: Almost all remaining restricitons lifted from next week
The Cabinet has agreed to end almost all remaining health restrictions from next Monday.
It means mask wearing in schools, in retail settings and on public transport will be voluntary from February 28, but they will still be required in health care setting such as hospitals and nursing homes.
People will also be advised to continue to wear masks on public transport, but this will no longer be mandatory.
Physical distancing measures in schools, such as pods, will also end next week.
Covid testing and tracing will also be scaled back and the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) will be wound-up too.
The latest developments come after the leaders of the three Coalition parties backed NPHET’s recommendation to end mandatory mask wearing.
