Man (40s) dies from injuries after falling while walking in mountains

A MAN has died after sustaining fatal injuries following a fall while out walking yesterday afternoon.
The man in his 40s fell while near the top of the Mahon Falls in the Comeragh Mountains in neighbouring Waterford.
It is understood the man was walking with relatives at the time of the accident. His relatives tried to assist the man while waiting for the emergency services to arrive.
The man was removed from the waterfall by Rescue Helicopter 117 which came from Waterford Airport. The South East Mountain Rescue (SEMRA), with local Kilkenny members, and the Ambulance Service also attended the scene.
A post mortem is due to take place later today at University Hospital Waterford.
