New CCTV cameras to guard Kilkenny WW1 memorial after vandals’ attack
MEMBERS of the public are invited to attend a special ceremony at Kilkenny’s World War 1 memorial, which has been fully repaired after it was vandalised earlier this year.
CCTV cameras – which are directly linked to the local Garda station – have also been installed at the memorial in a bid to prevent a repeat of the vandalism that sparked outrage locally.
Calls for the security cameras were made last March after the statue of the fallen soldier in the Peace Park was defaced.
Donal Croghan from the local Great War Memorial Committee told KCLR he is very happy with the work that has been carried out on the memorial.
Meanwhile, a ceremony will take place at the Peace Park from 1pm on July 14 to mark the National Day of Commemoration. All members of the public are invited to attend.
