Plans to fast track 100 homes at new Kilkenny housing development

Plans to fast track the development of over 100 new homes in Kilkenny have been received by An Bord Pleanála.

Developer Denis Treacy Construction Limited lodged an application to the national planning authority requesting permission to build 112 new homes at Margaret’s Field on the Callan Road in Kilkenny.

Previously in 2018, Denis Treacy Construction Limited received planning permission for 60 new homes on a 2.5 hectare site at Margaret’s Fields. That development would have seen the demolition of an existing three-storey apartment block at that location.

The new plans lodged with An Bord Pleanála would see the construction of 62 new houses and 50 new apartments.

The application has been made as part of a Strategic Housing Development (SHD), the programme introduced by the Government in 2017 as part of their Rebuilding Ireland project, to speed up the planning application process and accelerate the delivery of larger housing proposals.

As part of the SHD process, applications for housing developments of more than 100 residential units can now be made directly to An Bord Pleanála, instead of to the local authority.

A decision on the development is due by the end of next month.
