Two drink drivers nabbed within minutes at Covid checkpoints outside Kilkenny town
Two drivers were caught over the legal alcohol limit at two separate Garda checkpoints in Thomastown.
The checkpoints were set up to police the Level 3 restrictions that came into effect this week to combat the spread of Covid-19.
The two drink drivers were caught within moments of each other at checkpoints set up around Thomastown on Wednesday evening. Both were charged to appear before Kilkenny District Court.
Gardai were out in force policing Kilkenny’s roads as part of the Operation Fanacht, which was reintroduced to implement new Covid-19 restrictions.
A local Garda spokesperson again urged motorists not to drive while “under the influence of an intoxicant”.
