Glanbia announces grain prices for 2019
By COLIN BARTLEY
KILKENNY’S multinational food producer, Glanbia Ireland, has confirmed its harvest 2019 grain pricing.
Glanbia Ireland will pay €141 per tonne for green barley and €148 per tonne for feed wheat delivered by co-op members during harvest 2019.
This price includes an extra €3 per tonne co-op bonus to all members and is in addition to the 2019 Glanbia Co-op Grain Trading Bonus Scheme under which members can achieve a bonus of up to €10 per tonne based on their level of qualifying inputs purchased
This is a drop from the €205 per tonne paid in 2018, which included €2 per tonne co-op bonus.
For non-co-op members, the barley price is €128per tonne and €135 tonne for feed wheat.
The price the Kilkenny agrifood company is paying for malting barley is €186 per tonne to members, down from €237 per tonne last year, while the non-member price is set at €173 per tonne, down from €225 last year.
For Oilseed rape, Glanbia announced a price of €355/t and €342/t for members and non-members respectively, which is much the same as 2018.
Glanbia Ireland said: “Due to higher yields and increased support from growers in our catchment area, Glanbia Ireland’s harvest intake this year is over 200,000 tonnes, which is 40% ahead of the previous year.
Glanbia Chairman Martin Keane described the market for grain as challenging and said that growers were selling into a weak market.
“In light of this, he said the Board agreed to make a €3 per tonne market support payment on all 2019 harvest tonnes delivered by Members. The vast majority of our Members are loyal customers of the business, which ensures that they qualify for the €10 per tonne Trading Bonus.”
