THE Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) carried out 20 investigations into the proceeds of criminal activity locally last year.
Their investigations in the Kilkenny-Carlow Garda division accounted for just two per cent of all CAB probes nationwide in 2018, according to figures published in the elite Garda body’s annual report this week.
The CAB has special legal powers to investigate illegally acquired assets of criminals involved in serious crime.
In all, 973 investigations were launched by CAB last year. More than €5.6 million in criminal profits was seized and over €8 million worth of assets were frozen.
