Major setback to plans for university campus in Kilkenny city

PLANS for a university campus in Kilkenny city have received a serious setback.

It comes after TUI staff members at IT Carlow rejected an agreement that could have paved the way for the long-awaited Technological University for the South East (TUSE).

The setback will also delay plans for the National Design Centre and School of Design that have been mooted for the proposed Abbey Quarter in Kilkenny city.

Earlier this month a key agreement was reached between the stakeholders involved in the planned amalgamation of Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) and IT Carlow.

However, the university project has been temporarily derailed after TUI staff members at IT Carlow rejected an agreement that was reached at the Workplace Relations Commission earlier this week.

If the agreement was accepted it would have paved the way for the application from WIT and IT Carlow to be submitted by the end of the month.
