By COLIN BARTLEY

KILKENNY is looking to retain its crown as Ireland’s best foodie destination – and all challengers are welcome!

Foodie Destinations 2019 was launched here in Kilkenny – the city of the reigning champions – this week and organisers are urging local food makers and providers across the country to get involved to promote the produce of their area.

The annual Foodie Destinations competition is hosted by the Restaurant Association of Ireland (RAI), and this year’s event is being sponsored by FBD Insurance. The purpose of the competition is to celebrate Ireland’s unique and wonderful food offrings, while also encouraging local food tourism initiatives.

Speaking at the launch at Kilkenny Castle, RAI CEO Adrian Cummins said “I’m delighted to that we’re launching Foodie Destinations for 2019 today. In 2018, the standard of competition was incredibly high. Foodie Destinations is an excellent opportunity for regions across Ireland to promote what makes them unique.”
